PLAYER / PARENT CODE of CONDUCT
High School sports are supposed to be fun – for the Student Athletes, coaches and spectators alike. Actions by Student Athletes, parents, fans and coaches, whether verbal or nonverbal, can have a lasting emotional effect. Too many of today’s Student Athletes are leaving sports activities because the fun is unfairly compromised.
The Conifer High School Lacrosse program strongly believes the essential elements of character-building and ethics in sports are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core principles: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Good Citizenship. As a Student Athlete, parent or guardian in the Conifer High School Lacrosse program, your actions reflect not only on you and your Student Athlete but the entire Conifer High School Lacrosse program.
As a Student Athlete or parent/guardian participating in the Conifer High School Lacrosse program, you agree to abide by and follow the rules and guidelines below:
Ø We will adhere to the Conifer High School Lacrosse Program’s Zero Tolerance Policy and will never be under the influence of or in possession of drugs or alcohol, use of tobacco products or possession of weapons of any kind at practices, games, trips or other event.
Ø We understand that the use of foul language towards anyone (players, coaches, teammates, officials, opponents or spectators) will not be tolerated. We will not engage in any language or actions with the intent to initiate conflict, hurt, intimidate or humiliate any Student Athlete, coach, official or spectator. We will not tolerate these acts from any Student Athletes, coaches or adults associated with Conifer High School Lacrosse program. These acts shall be considered harassment and will result in the immediate removal from the practice, game or event.
Ø We will not post on any social media site with the intent to initiate, hurt, intimidate or humiliate any Student Athlete, coach, official or spectator. The posting of negative, demeaning or derogatory comments will not be tolerated. These acts shall be considered harassment and may result in the immediate removal from the club. As a Student Athlete or parent/guardian, we understand that we are accountable for our actions on social media sites. We understand the importance of proper conduct on these sites and will provide parental oversight to prevent any type of cyber-bullying by my student.
Ø We (and our guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, Student Athlete or parent such as booing, taunting or using profane language or gestures. We will maintain self-control at games, practices and other club events.
Ø We (and our guests) will be positive role models and will encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and demonstrate positive support for all Student Athletes, coaches, officials and spectators at every game, practice or event.
Ø We will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of the athletes.
Ø We will play by the rules and resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence. We will treat all Student Athletes, coaches, officials and spectators with respect.
Ø We will praise Student Athletes for playing hard and competing fairly.
Ø We will never ridicule or yell at Student Athletes or participant’s for making a mistake or losing a game.
Ø We will not complain or become confrontational about penalties or calls made by the officials and will respect the referees and their decisions at all times.
Ø We will support the coaches and allow them to do their job by not coaching Student Athletes during games and practices. We will not openly question or confront coaches before, during or after games or practices and will adhere to the 24 hour rule; Student Athletes or parents/guardians are not to approach a coach to discuss a practice issue, a game incident or a situation that occurred during the game that has provoked an adverse emotional response or a hostile situation until at least 24 hours after the fact.
Ø We will promote the emotional and physical well-being of the athletes ahead of any personal desire I have for my Student Athlete or his/her team to win.
All Conifer Student Athletes playing Lacrosse and their families are required to sign and return the Conifer Lacrosse Code of Conduct to Coach Tom Grover prior to the beginning of the season.
